Taiwan compatriots share in Games glory

The active participation of Taiwan compatriots in different ways during the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics was a vivid manifestation of the fact that the two sides of the Taiwan Straits are one family and are working together to realize the Chinese dream, a senior official said on Monday.
Wang Yang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, made the remarks while meeting with Wu Cheng-tien, chairman of Taiwan's New Party, via video link in Beijing on Monday.
Wu and his visiting delegation arrived in Beijing on Thursday and attended the closing ceremony of the Games on Sunday.
"The success of the Games is the common glory of all Chinese people," Wang said, adding that Taiwan compatriots cannot be absent in realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
Wang stressed that the New Party has long supported national reunification, opposed "Taiwan independence", and promoted the peaceful development of cross-Straits relations, which Chinese mainland compatriots would remember.
The more complex and grave the situation across the Straits, the more it highlights the value of upholding the great interests of the nation, he said, calling for Taiwan compatriots to oppose secessionist acts for "independence "and interference by foreign forces.
Wu said the historical trend of reunification across the Straits cannot be stopped and he hoped the two sides will gradually move toward peaceful reunification through exchanges, integration, dialogue and communication.
The New Party is willing to be the "vanguard" and "light the flame of hope" belonging to people on both sides on the journey of promoting national reunification, he said.
