Schools go online amid outbreak in Shandong

All teaching on campus at primary and secondary schools in Weihai, Shandong province, has been suspended and must be conducted online because of a COVID-19 outbreak that hit the city on Monday, officials said at a news conference on Tuesday.
Weihai reported two locally transmitted confirmed cases and 14 asymptomatic carriers on Monday.
All the infections involve people who attended a training project in Weihai and their relatives, except for one asymptomatic carrier who was detected during routine testing of key groups.
The genome sequencing of the first case in the outbreak found the Omicron variant of the coronavirus.
Clusters of infection have appeared, and more cases are likely, the officials said. An epidemiological investigation is underway.
