Voters said candidates of the Legislative Council Election Committee constituency by-election are capable and talented, hoping they will use their rich expertise to serve the city's development needs and propel it to better integrate into the nation's blueprint.

A total of 1,307 Election Committee members cast their ballots from 9 am to 11:30 am at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, and elected four new lawmakers among six candidates.

After casting the vote, Tam Yiu-chung, Hong Kong delegate to the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress said all the six candidates were active to canvass support. He hoped that the elected members would serve the best interests of Hong Kong residents, and facilitate the executive and legislative ties to get smoother.

Business leader Kennedy Wong Ying-ho said the six candidates are of outstanding comprehensive capability, and their rich experience in the fields of innovation, engineering, as well as public affairs is exactly what Hong Kong needs for greater development.

Lo Wai-kwok, chairman of the Business and Professionals Alliance for Hong Kong, said he looked forward to working with the new lawmakers to rejuvenate Hong Kong's economy and improve people's livelihood under the new landscape of "patriots administering Hong Kong".

Witman Hung Wai-man, principal liaison officer for Hong Kong at the Shenzhen Qianhai Authority, said his considerations of casting the vote include the candidates' political platforms, their previous achievements and what kind of lawmakers can serve the legislature's current needs.

He hoped that the elected lawmakers would play a good role in monitoring the government, in particular in promoting technological development and using technological transformation to help Hong Kong better integrate into the overall development of the country.
