Live music performances across the city spark enthusiasm and romance

The vibrant melodies of live music performances have been sweeping across Shanghai, infusing popular tourist destinations with a sense of enchantment and delight. Musicians have been making surprise appearances at iconic locations, setting the stage for moments of musical magic and shared joy.
With the start of the summer music festival Music In the Summer Air (MISA) in Shanghai, also came the launch of a smaller initiative titled MISA Across the City. Featuring 13 live music sessions at nine diverse venues, including bustling business circles, cultural hubs, and serene corner gardens, the initiative aims to captivate audiences with the power of music.
Zhang Da, a talented trumpeter from the Shanghai Band Academy, shared his perspective on the initiative, expressing a desire to spark interest in well-known musical works. "As long as people are immersed in the music for a minute or two, we have accomplished our mission," Zhang said after a performance at ICCF Garden. He also highlighted the need for performers to adapt to the unique atmospheric conditions of outdoor settings, such as adjusting volume and timbre to suit the surroundings.
Prepared for the unpredictable weather patterns, Wang Junyue, project director of the Education and Development Center of the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, ensured that contingency plans were in place, with backup locations arranged to accommodate any unforeseen rain showers.
Location selection was a meticulous process, with the team scouting numerous spots in Xuhui district find locations with an ambiance that harmonized with the surrounding architecture and foot traffic flow. Each musical performance was tailored to suit the chosen venue, fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment for all attendees.
In the bustling Huangpu district, Xia Fei, principal trumpeter of the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, led a brass ensemble in a captivating performance at Xintiandi. Jazz melodies filled the air, including classics like All of Me, Autumn Leaves, and There Will Never Be Another You, setting the stage for a memorable musical experience.

The universal language of music transcended cultural boundaries, with French exchange students joyfully dancing to the tunes alongside a group of 190 American students and teachers. Their shared sentiment of happiness and camaraderie underscored the unifying power of music, fostering connections and spreading joy throughout the city.
Reflecting on the impact of MISA Across the City, Xia expressed gratitude for the opportunity to connect with audiences on a profound level.
"We can see that we've truly brought them happiness through music as they laugh and dance," Xia said. emphasizing the intrinsic desire of musicians to uplift spirits and create lasting memories through their art.
