French-Portuguese in Nantong engages in showcasing a real China
On the Douyin platform, the account name of Ayrton Loureiro is "Xiao Luo in China", with tens of thousands of followers and likes exceeding 100,000. The account bio reads: "I love Chinese food and culture, and I love traveling."
Xiao Luo originally planned to stay in China for one year. However, after arriving in Haimen, a district in Nantong, he unexpectedly didn't want to leave. He joked that he was "stuck" here.
To Xiao Luo, Haimen is an exceptionally livable place. The district has given Xiao Luo a sense of love and belonging. Here, he achieved success in his career, found love, and made many friends from China and abroad. Today, both represent home in Xiao Luo's mind, whether it's China as a whole or Haimen specifically. He even declares on social media, "Haimen is my home."
Over the years, in addition to his work, Xiao Luo has developed a passion for self-media. He captures exciting moments and feelings from his life in his videos on Douyin. He also publishes videos on overseas platforms like YouTube and Facebook to clarify doubts to his foreign audiences.
Speaking of his initial intention to engage in self-media, he admitted that he mainly viewed China through Western media and a few movies and TV shows with a Western perspective before coming to China. However, after staying in China, he realized that his previous understanding was one-sided, and he even had many biases. This realization prompted him to use his camera to document the beauty of life and present a real, multi-dimensional view of China.
"I am a foreigner, but I am also Chinese. I love the life here," Xiao Luo expressed, stating that his feelings for China have become ingrained in his blood. He plans to continue filming, capturing China, Nantong, and Haimen, showing the world a more diverse and vibrant China.
