China's gaokao exam begins grading

With the conclusion of China's 2025 national college entrance exam, or the gaokao, on Tuesday, many provinces have entered the grading phase, and the release dates for exam results have been gradually announced across the country.
Due to variations in exam subject arrangements, some regions completed the three-day exam on Monday, while others, including Beijing, Tianjin, Zhejiang province and Shandong province, concluded the four-day exam on Tuesday afternoon.
Many provinces have moved on to the grading phase and rolled out a series of measures to ensure that the grading process is fair, standardized, scientific, accurate, and secure.
The gaokao grading period runs from Tuesday through June 24 in Shanxi province. According to the local education authority, video surveillance has been installed at all grading sites and key areas to provide full coverage with no blind spots. The entire grading process is being recorded to ensure transparency and fairness.
In Guizhou province, where the gaokao grading process began on Tuesday, a hybrid grading approach has been adopted. It combines multiple rounds of manual evaluation with artificial intelligence-assisted quality control to enhance the scientific rigor and impartiality of the assessment process.
In Anhui province, online grading began on Saturday. The grading of non-multiple-choice sections is taking place at four designated universities in the province: Anhui University, Anhui Normal University, Anhui Agricultural University and Anhui Jianzhu University.
The exam results are expected to be released by the end of June across the country. Provinces including Anhui, Jiangxi, Henan, Sichuan and the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region plan to release exam results on June 25. In Shanghai, results will be available for inquiry starting June 23, according to the local education examination authority.
Meanwhile, several provinces have also released timelines for college application submissions. In Henan province, the application process will last from June 26 to July 7. Applications for regular undergraduate and arts undergraduate programs will be accepted from June 30 to July 3, while applications for vocational college programs will be open from July 5 to July 7.
Hunan province will begin college application submissions on June 26, Shanxi province on June 27, Shandong province on June 29 and Guizhou province plans to conduct the application process from June 28 to July 2.
