China's Jiayuguan culture and tourism bureau and Jordan's Petra Development and Tourism Regional Authority signed a renewed cultural and tourism agreement in Petra on May 20.
The signing was witnessed by Chen Chuandong, Chinese Ambassador to Jordan and representatives from both countries' cultural institutions.
Ambassador Chen said that both Petra ancient city and the Great Wall — recognized as New Seven Wonders of the World — have a lot in common. He called for continued cooperation in historical preservation and people-to-people exchanges between China and Jordan.
Zhao Shumin, a representative from Jiayuguan emphasized the deep historical and cultural parallels between the two cities, both key nodes along the ancient Silk Road.

The signing ceremony featured captivating performances from Gansu artists, including Chinese erhu and pipa renditions of Jordanian music, traditional dances like the ribbon dance, and beloved classics such as Ambush from Ten Sides. The crowd responded with enthusiastic applause, showcasing the powerful resonance of cross-cultural celebration.
In 2017, Jiayuguan, representing the Great Wall of China, signed an agreement with Petra to become sister World Cultural Heritage sites. This renewed partnership aims to foster exchange, mutual learning, and shared prosperity by leveraging the historical and cultural significance of both cities, while establishing a strong foundation for long-term cooperation and enduring cultural ties.
