Republicans celebrate passing Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill Act

Republicans in the House pushed President Donald Trump's massive $4.5 trillion tax and spending bill past the finish line ahead of the Fourth of July deadline, overcoming several issues with the signature legislation that had threatened to derail the process.

The House voted 218 to 214 in favor of the bill, as two Republicans joined with Democrats, who were all against the legislation.

But the defectors didn't stop the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) from being approved as GOP leaders gave it all they had to ensure that the bill would be on Trump's desk on Friday and signed into law.

It signals a historic win for the president's signature package of legislation in his second-term. He is set to sign it into law on Independence Day at around 5pm Eastern Time.

The OBBBA is at least 800 pages long and is chock full of issues that the Republicans wanted to see done. It benefited from Republicans being in control of Congress as that smoothed its path. The Democrats were united in opposition against it.

House Speaker Mike Johnson, showed signs of emotion as he was surrounded by his Republican colleagues ahead of the bill signing.

Johnson gave thanks to "an audacious plan" that "did not waste the opportunity" of unified government, the Associated Press reported.

"I believe in America," Johnson said emotionally. He then turned-on Trump's Democratic predecessor saying: "Everything was an absolute disaster under the Biden-Harris radical, woke, progressive, Democrat regime." He added that Republicans "had to quite literally fix every area of public policy."

Republicans were seen giving a thumbs up as they posed next to Johnson.

Some lawmakers danced mimicking a move done by Trump to the song Y.M.C.A as Johnson signed the bill.

The GOP were also united in their praise for their leader as his bill lays out most of his conservative agenda.

Representative Lisa McClain, the GOP conference chair said: "Without his leadership, none of this would have been possible. But today, we passed actual transformational legislation, legislation that will impact every family tomorrow."

As the right cheered the passage of the bill, Democrats reacted to the vote in the House, some looked visibly upset.

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a New York Democrat told reporters after the vote: "People are going to go hungry, people are going to get sick on a scale unlike anything we've ever seen. And all of it is just to finance tax cuts for billionaires and the wealthiest corporations who don't need it."

She added: "There has to be consequences to these votes. We have to decide if this is just for TV, or just a joke, or our real lives. And I hope people vote like it's our real lives."
