Cooperation should replace zero-sum mentality: ministry

China has called on the United States to abandon its "zero-sum mentality" and further remove a series of unreasonable trade restrictions targeting Chinese companies, the Ministry of Commerce said on Friday.
The spokesperson made the comments in response to reports that the US approved Nvidia's H20 sales to China because Huawei can already make equivalent chips, and that the US does not want to see China achieve a domestic substitute.
Following their economic and trade talks in London, China and the US have maintained "close communication", affirming the details of the framework established in London and progressing with its implementation, said a spokesperson for the ministry.
China has been approving eligible export license applications for controlled items in accordance with the law, while the US has correspondingly lifted the restrictions targeting China that were addressed during the talks, the spokesperson added.
"Cooperation and mutual benefit are the right path forward, while suppression and containment have no way out," the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson noted that, in May, the US unveiled export control measures targeting Huawei's Ascend chips, tightened restrictions on Chinese chip products after unfounded accusations, and intervened in fair market competition with administrative measures.
These moves have severely undermined the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies, to which China has expressed strong opposition, the spokesperson added.
"We hope the US will work with China to correct its erroneous practices through equal consultation, and create a favorable environment for mutually beneficial cooperation between enterprises on both sides," the spokesperson said.
