How to write a letter to thank the interviewer

Around two-thirds of resumes are accompanied by a cover letter and yet fewer than 5 percent of people will think of writing a thank you letter after the interview. We couldn't help but wonder if a thank you letter is necessary.

If we view the question from another perspective, the answer is more obvious. The process of interviewing is similar to that of dating between two people. Just as important as a call or a text message after dating by a gentleman to secure the attention of a lady, a thank you letter is a must to retain and enhance recruitment interest from potential employers.

Even if you don't want to take the position after the interview, a thank you letter to withdraw the application is necessary. Anyhow, who knows what chances will come up in the future?

So how should you write the letter?

Firstly, write and send out a thank you letter within 24 hours after the interview. The timing shows that you are serious about the position and quick to act.

In the first paragraph, express your appreciation to the interviewer for taking the time to join the interview. Remind him or her about the position for which you were interviewed and the date of your interview.

In the second paragraph, show your continued interest and enhance his or her impressions of your qualifications by referring to one or two key points discussed that most represent your strength and value in relation to the position.

In the third paragraph, add anything you failed to mention in the interview that would make you a good candidate for the position. Relieve them of any concerns they may have about appointing you with honest statements or promises.

In the last paragraph, reiterate your appreciation for being considered for the position. Let the recruiter know that you would expect to hear further from him or her soon. Include your contact information for easy accessibility.

Overall speaking, a thank you letter should be simple and focused and no longer than one page. Proofread it carefully and make sure that it's free of spelling and grammatical mistakes.
