Why Kunming will bounce back

Kunming, capital of Southwest China's Yunnan province, has always been famous for its beautiful landscape. On Saturday, it grabbed the headlines around the world when eight terrorists wielding large knives killed 29 people and injured more than 140 at Kunming Railway Station.

Tourism sector, one of the major industries of Kunming, earned 51.59 billion yuan in 2013, up 20.91 percent from the same period in 2012, according to statistics released by the Tourism Bureau of Kunming. During the week-long Spring Festival holiday this year, the city received three million tourists

Why Kunming will bounce back

Gea Ardesch, who is from the Netherlands and currently works in China, says the attack will not have any impact on her decision to travel to Kunming, Yunnan.

"There are crazy people everywhere, but fortunately the vast majority wants to live in harmony. I've always felt that China is a safe place, even safer than the Netherlands where I'm from."

"As a matter of fact, the main factor that plays any role in my decision to travel inside China is the traveling regulation on my visa. I’ve been to Kunming and will go back."

Andrea Allison, a US citizen who has previously lived in China, says she will still come back to China and go to Kunming.

"Honestly, I have not given it much thought. Obviously, what happened is horrible, but it has not scared me much."

"Tourism in the city might be affected, just like it was affected after 9/11. No one wanted to travel." "I will still go to China. I like Kunming."

Why Kunming will bounce backHuangyan, a worker with China's leading travel agency, says: "I will travel to Kunming. It's so beautiful. Safety is totally no problem. The security will be the strongest after the terrorist attack."

Li Lingling, a corporate worker in Dalian who has always been a travel lover, says she will postpone her travel plan to Kunming, Yunnan, due to safety concerns until the tensions there ease.

"The city offers me little sense of safety."

An anonymous US citizen who works in China says the latest incident will probably not change her plan to travel to Kunming.

"In the US there are murders everyday, think of all the school/mall shooting we have, you can't live your life in fear."
