BOAO, Hainan -- The Chinese economy has got off to a stable and good start this year, Premier Li Keqiang said Thursday at the opening ceremony of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) annual conference 2014.

Narrowing the gap between urban and rural areas and among different regions will also unleash huge potential for growth, the premier said.

China won't resort to stimulus for temporary fluctuations

China will not resort to short-term stimulus policies just because of temporary economic fluctuations.

"We will pay more attention to sound development in the medium and long run," the premier said in a keynote speech at the opening ceremony.

China confident to keep economy in proper range

China have the capabilities and confidence in keeping its economy functioning within the proper range.

"With all the principles established and policy options at our disposal, we can handle all possible risks and challenges. China's development has strong resilience," Li said in a keynote speech at the opening ceremony.

China has set this year's target of economic growth at about 7.5 percent.

Conditions in place for achieving sustained growth

Conditions are in place for the Chinese economy to achieve sustained and sound growth.

"China has a big economy and large foreign exchange reserves. There is steady and coordinated progress in advancing the new type of industrialization, IT application, urbanization and agricultural modernization," Li said in a keynote speech at the opening ceremony.

Narrowing the gap between urban and rural areas and among different regions will also unleash huge potential for growth, the premier said.

Asia should explore establishment of regional security cooperation framework

Asian countries should build consensus, make active efforts and jointly fulfill their due responsibilities to achieve peace and stability in Asia, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang said on Thursday.

"We should actively explore the establishment of a regional security cooperation framework in Asia," the premier said at the opening ceremony of the 2014 annual conference of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) held in south China's Hainan Province.

Asia's economic integration, responsibilities

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang on Thursday called on Asian countries to find new drives to re-energize the region in face of new development and new challenges.

Asian countries need to build a community of shared interests, common destiny and shared responsibilities, Li said when delivering a keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) Annual Conference 2014 held in Boao, a coastal town in south China's Hainan province.

Uncertainties and destabilizing factors in the world are increasing, and the spillovers of the international financial crisis are still affecting Asia, he said.
