American child movie star Shirley Temple died on Monday evening at the age of 85. Upon hearing the news, Chinese Internet users expressed their condolences. Stars from the Chinese entertainment industry also voiced their wistfulness and admiration for the dimpled film star who played spirit-lifting roles in films made during the US Great Depression.

For Chinese actress Chen Shu, watching Shirley Temple in movies has always been her most unforgettable memories from her childhood. “I have seen almost all her films. I love her sweet singing voice and the forever “bright eyes” and “curly hair”. I still remember the scene when she tap danced in her little black skirt with the adults, the love and hope she brought has warmed us ever since. Love you, our angel,” wrote Chen.

From then on, I have always admired her, I ‘d like to have a daughter like her.” For Li, Shirley Temple’s death is hard to accept. She said, “Today I got the news of her passing away, I was shocked and can’t accept it, it seems like she will always remain the angel in my mind, or maybe the angel is only going home,” Li said.

Actor Lu Yi expressed his sadness by saying “The angel flied away…”

“The most familiar child star for Chinese people. A real talent that can be seen only once every hundred years”, said screenwriter Yu Baimei.
