Cheat who duped teen with promise of high pay jailed

A woman who duped a teenager of 3,645 yuan ($536) was sentenced to five months in jail and fined 3,000 yuan for fraud in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, recently.

Hu Hongmei, 33, posted an advertisement online promising to pay a tour guide 100,000 yuan for showing a seriously ill patient a good time. According to the ad, the money would be paid once the contract is signed, and if the patient was satisfied with the tour, the guide would get another 590,000 yuan as a bonus.

Yan saw the ad in January and jumped at the opportunity. He contacted Hu, who told him that he would have to first deposit 3,645 yuan as notary fee and personal income tax, before 100,000 yuan is transferred to his account.

Yan stole 3,000 yuan from his father's wallet and gave the amount to Yan, who asked him to deposit another 5,000 yuan. That's when the 15-year-old realized he had been sucked into a scam.

Yan told his father, who asked a friend to pretend to be interested in the ad so the police could catch Hu red-handed.
