The Third Session of the 12th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the country's top political advisory body, opened Tuesday in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

A total of 2,153 members of the CPPCC National Committee will discuss major issues concerning the country's development during the annual session.

Yu Zhengsheng, the chairman of the CPPCC, delivered a work report on the session.

Focusing on the reform of the economic system, the CPPCC has held meetings on giving play to the decisive role of the market in allocating resources as well as the role of the government. The CPPCC members have offered advices on finding effective ways to realize basic economic policies, to improve modern market system and transform governmenth's functions.

The CPPCC members have also studied deeper implementation of reforms in State-owned companies, price and tax on natural resource products and accounting on gross ecosystem product.

The CPPCC has held meetings that focus on enhancing and improving macro-control to cope with the downward pressure of the economy. The CPPCC has worked with special committees and local governments to research and advice on reducing overproduction, technology innovation in small and medium-sized firms, regulating and developing Internet finance, developing information consumption and enhancing the research and application of big data.

The CPPCC members have also advised on building a new agricultural operating system and pushing the agricultural developing mode and discussed on the opportunities and challenges of genetically-modified agricultural products.
