Professor Gore believes that overseas Chinese scholars are extremely suitable for the role, because they are "capable of presenting a more complicated and multidimensional, a more realistic and hence more convincing story of China".

CBI stands for China Book International, a project launched in 2005, jointly by the State Council Information Office and the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television. The project's major goal is to raise the appeal of Chinese writing and publishing to the global audience through sponsoring the translation and promotion fees.

CBI invites top publishing professionals outside China to serve as its foreign consultants. So far it has 33 such consultants.

Nick Campbell, executive editor of Nature Publishing Group Corp. said at BIBF International Publishing Forum on Tuesday that " Nature magazine views China as a very important source of innovation."

Campbell noticed that China's science publishing has seen considerable growth. The top essays published have increased not only in quantity, but also notably in quality.

He believed that the government's backing, especially in finding, as well as growing a number of talents the country has nurtured over the years are the two reasons behind the progress.

According to the publishing administration's Vice-Minister Wu Shangzhi, also on the book fair's key publishing forum, the country's publishing industry is a business of 1.99 trillion yuan ($310 billion) in terms of income reaped in 2014, a rise of 9.4 percent compared with that in 2013.

"The development of Chinese publishing is a result of frequent and fruitful exchanges of the country's publishers with their international counterparts, a huge leap is found in areas of digital publishing," Wu said.

Wu also noted that currently there are more than 390,000 Chinese titles on sale on Amazon's global platform.
