China-Hungarian links elevated

Starting from August 2, tourists from China and Hungary will be able to enjoy direct flights between the capitals of the two nations three times a week, according to a newly inked agreement.

With a strong belief that the opening of such an air route could attract an increasing number of Chinese citizens to visit Europe, Hainan Airlines Chairman Chen Feng on Friday said tourists then could transfer to more than 40 European destinations after landing in Budapest.

The agreement, signed by Chen's company and MALEV (Hungary Airlines), is in fact one of the fruits harvested during the state visit by Chinese President Hu Jintao to the central European nation.

In a joint communique inked by Hu and his Hungarian counterpart Madl Ferenc, China and Hungary have agreed to set up a Sino-Hungarian friendly partnership and stated that it helps to set up a firm foundation for friendly and mutual collaboration in the future.

Deepening partnerships are in the best interests of both peoples and are also good for regional and world peace and stability, according to the communique.

The two sides agree to strengthen collaboration in the areas of economy and trade, culture and education, science and technology and personnel exchanges, it said.

On the Taiwan issue, Hungary reiterated its stance on the one-China policy and will not conduct any official contact with Taiwan, it said.

The two sides unanimously criticized terrorism in all forms, vowing to strengthen partnerships in judiciary, public security, customs and financial supervision sectors.

"Economic and trade co-operation is a major direction that the two countries are working toward,'' said Hu at a press conference after the talks by the two heads of state.

Mandl said that Hungary regards China as its most important partner in Asia, and that despite different domestic situations the two are glad to establish new types of co-operative relationships.

To this, Hu suggested that the two sides should maintain high-level exchanges with the aim to increase political trust as well as encouraging multichannel investment to raise economic and trade partnership.
