4 nabbed in drug bust in Aberdeen

Detectives of the Police Narcotics Bureau seized 8 kilograms of ketamine with a street value of HK$950,000 in Aberdeen on Thursday. Four suspects were arrested.

Acting on information, detectives waited by the typhoon shelter along Tin Wan Praya Road Thursday morning. A man carrying a bag disembarked from a sampan and walked toward a nearby van. Detectives intercepted him. The man attempted to resist but was subdued. Two men waiting in the van were also arrested as well as a fourth man who was believed to have been acting as a lookout on the pier. Police believed that the drugs were smuggled from the mainland by boat and intended for distribution at entertainment venues in Hong Kong.

Sig Travel staff sue for salaries

Eighteen former employees of Sig Travel visited the Labour Tribunal on Thursday to file a petition against the shuttered travel agency for some HK$100,000 in unpaid salaries, pay in lieu of notice and long service payment.

The employees, including managers and tour escorts, said some have not been paid for three months.

Man denies hacking website

A 28-year-old man was indicted on criminal damage charges, in Fan Ling Magistrates' Court on Thursday, for allegedly paralyzing the website of the Public Opinion Programme of University of Hong Kong (HKUPOP) in March last year.

The man pleaded not guilty to the charge. The hearing was adjourned after the defendant, surnamed Chan, said he hadn't obtained counsel.

The prosecution charges that Chan hacked into the website of HKUPOP through a Distributed Denial of Services Attack. The Police Technology Crime Division also arrested a 17-year-old male in connection with the case.

The prosecution said 11 witnesses will be summoned to give evidence in the three-day trial.

DBC founders withdraw lawsuits

Two founders of Digital Broadcasting Corporation (DBC) withdrew their lawsuits against each other in the High Court on Thursday, after reaching a buyout deal bringing to an end a month-long dispute at Hong Kong's first digital radio broadcaster. The court approved the applications.

The dispute broke out in August last year after Bill Wong Cho-bau and four other shareholders refused to invest more into the company that had been operating in the red. Co-founder Albert Cheng King-hon accused Wong of breaching his contract. The lack of funds forced the suspension of DBC's radio broadcasts in October.

Before Wong purchased stakes from Cheng and other shareholders and took control of the company in a deal officially sealed on January 4, Wong and Cheng sued each other in the High Court concerning possible liquidation of the company.

Relaxation of NSR extended

The Transport Department announced on Thursday that the scheme for relaxation of peak-hour and 7 am to 7 pm no-stopping restrictions on taxis, along roads with speed limits of less than 70 kilometers per hour would be extended for 12 months to January 31, 2014.
