TAO Dance Theater - NCPA Dance Festival 2015

TAO is the second Chinese modern dance company after Guangdong Modern Dance Company in 1997 to be invited to the American Dance Festival to perform, and the first Chinese company to be invited to be in-residence for the 6-week festival. In 2012, TAO was invited to perform at Lincoln Center Festival, and was the first Chinese modern dance company invited to perform in the Spring Dance Festival at Sydney Opera House. TAO continues to tour internationally to major venues and festivals, including "Novell Dance Series" in Taipei, invited by renowned Asian choreographer Lin Hwai-Min.

War Horse in Beijing

War Horse is a play based on the book of the same name by children's writer Michael Morpurgo, adapted for stage by Nick Stafford. Originally Morpurgo thought they must be mad to try to make a play from his best-selling 1982 novel; nonetheless, the play was a success. The play's West End and Broadway productions are directed by Marianne Elliott and Tom Morris; it features life-size horse puppets by the Handspring Puppet Company of South Africa, with "horse choreography" by Toby Sedgwick.

Shadow Theater Fireflies in Beijing

The World of Hwang Young-sung

The exhibition will feature Chinese poetry, one of Hwang Young-sung's latest series, together with a selection of works he has been working on since 2000. Upon first sight, these works may strike viewers as vivid and brisk color blocks. Though they seem a bit haphazard, their disorder is neither messy nor coarse. In other words, a peculiar kind of chaotic order could be perceived from within.

Based on the 1910 horror novel by Gaston Leroux, which has been adapted into countless films, The Phantom of the Opera follows a deformed composer who haunts the grand Paris Opera House. As Christine's star rises, and a handsome suitor from her past enters the picture, the Phantom grows mad, terrorizing the opera house owners and company with his murderous ways. Still, Christine finds herself drawn to the mystery man. Audiences agree - The Phantom of the Opera is Broadway's longest-running hit. Ever.

Puppet Musical from Hometown of Music - The Sound of Music

Venue: Shanghai Children Art Theater

The original Broadway production, starring Mary Martin and Theodore Bikel, opened on Nov 16, 1959. This production was a five time winner at the 14th Tony Awards, out of nine nominations. And this year is the 50 anniversary of the release of the film. The scene of the film and the Colonel's home is in Salzburg, Austria, the birthplace of the music of Mozart and other musicians of the Holy land. Do you still remember the film that humorous and funny puppet show "lonely shepherd"? It was inspired by the Salzburg puppet theatre.
