Huge names during Paris Fashion Week
(Agencies)
Updated: 2008-10-14 17:16 Big names are always the most eye-catching part in a fashion show. Here come from Ed Biado with Manila Standard Today the Spring/Summer '09 previews from Paris, one of the world's fashion capitals. 1. Stella McCartney—It's nice when a woman designs women's clothes. There’s an immediate understanding of the form with lots of romance and sensuality. Stella McCartney is to fashion as Pablo Neruda is to poetry. Ms. McCartney’s collection is a reflection of her affair with apparel and she seems to be partial to jumpsuits, a surefire hit for spring/summer. 2. Christian Lacroix—Probably the most spring output was from Lacroix. Bright prints range from florals to safari and the kicker is they’re all in one garment! Big flower details protrude from the waist or the shoulder and just about anywhere else. And the fit and silhouette are maintained flattering. It’s RTW taken to the couture level. 3. Dior—Breathing stops now. John Galliano's corset belts look so damn good, I can just imagine they have to hurt! This is another house that brings us '80s influences with leggings and bubblegummy hues. But i's all so now, thanks to sculpted fabrics and a more toned down choice of palette. And those miniskirts are divine! 4. Yves Saint Laurent—Streamlined, sophisticated, superb. These words cannot even begin to capture the currency that Stefano Pilati came up with on the runway. The colors were luxurious and unpretentious (especially the blood red). Pantsuits dipped almost down to the navel. Trench dresses were tailored to the extreme and there were even some exciting shoes to drool over. And there's something that looks like a skirt that looks like a pair of trou and honestly, no one's really sure what it is! 5. Louis Vuitton—The Marc Jacobs-concocted extravaganza is praised by many fashionistas as the best Paris Fashion Week collection. Some have commented that it looked like a tribute to Yves Saint Laurent. But it was so much more than that; punk rock elements fused with safari details rendered in the vibrant palette that only Jacobs can pull off. He just made LV so friggin' hot! 6. Givenchy—Western Bondage may be the name of Riccardo Tisci's collection, but it doesn't hurt at all! It's really the great Wild West in a collision course with S&M and the spawns were Catwoman-like pieces, jeans and a whole lot of embroidery. Feminine pieces include soft mini dresses and androgynous ones include the very butch leather jackets and the quintessential Wild West accessory—the sheriff’s badge. |
