National Toddler forum kicks off

The China Infant and Toddler Development Forum, led by the China National Committee for the Wellbeing of the Youth, announced on March 18 it has kicked off an eight-month program to teach parenting knowledge in 30 cities. Online and offline lectures will be held for families with children aged under 3. Topics include new feeding methods and cultivating infants' observation abilities.

Luneng launches green projects

Property management company, Beijing Luneng Property Management Co Ltd, announced on March 26 it will begin environmental protection promotions, as well as green property and public welfare events, in various communities during its 20th anniversary. The following year the company plans to install tool boxes, battery recycling bins, air quality monitoring devices and parking areas for bike-sharing in the communities.

Art against illegal animal products

Traffic, the international nongovernmental wildlife trade monitoring network, displayed big paper wild animals on March 20 to 26 in Beijing. Among the creations was a 100-square-meter white paper, representing the last male white rhino in the world. Artist Liutong displayed his paper rhinos, elephants, tigers and pangolins at the event. Traffic spokesman Yannick Kuehl, said his organization wanted to discourage illegal buying of wild animal products by the public.

Laptops donated to western county

Hong Kong-listed Kingdee International Software Group donated 200 laptops and desktops worth up to 840,000 yuan ($121,900) on March 20. It gave them to three schools in poverty-stricken Xihe county, in the mountainous areas of Northwest China's Gansu province, together with public welfare project Teach for China. Xue Genquan, deputy director of Xihe's education bureau, said: "Kids now have a chance to learn about the outside world through information technology." In 2016, Kingdee provided 1.5 million yuan in funds to support volunteers from Teach for China to teach in rural areas.

Mars helps healthy meals program

China Development Research Foundation signed a memorandum of understanding with US-based chocolate and candy producer Mars Inc, to promote a safe and healthy school meals program in Beijing. From 2017, Mars will organize food safety education among officials, teachers and students in poverty-stricken areas of China.
