Performance Information

Symphonia Vienna When Arts & Entertainment Vienna founded the Symphonia Vienna in 1995 they conceived its future to be in its uniqueness - a youthful international ensemble where every musician has experience in the Viennese tradition of music making. Today Symphonia Wien comprises exceptional musicians from all over the world. Whether principally soloists, chamber musicians or leading orchestral musicians, all share the passion and joy of making music together. The ensemble is equally comfortable performing the most intimate chamber music as the large symphonic orchestral repertoire.

'The performance of classical music is in danger of becoming an obsolete art form if it only appeals to a limited and specialised audience. The Symphonia Vienna aims to perform repertoire both traditional and new as well as exploring music from other cultures. Performing in less traditional venues also enables the communication of their musical legacy to a wider audience.'

The orchestra focuses the attention especially on the expansion of the repertoire and the genres (jazz, avant-garde, film scores, ballet, opera), on an international positioning through tours and CD,DVD productions as well as on a close relationship of the audience and the acquisition of new categories of listeners. Tradition and innovation are the two pillars of the Symphonia Vienna, on the one hand the cultivation of the classical repertoire from Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven via Schubert, Brahms and Bruckner to the 20th century, on the other hand contemporary music of all styles, new ways of making music and creative concepts.

The Symphonia Vienna relishes challenges and has the reputation of being an ambitious ensemble. The ensemble has its own distinctive sound, which is clear, vivacious and expressive. This is not just because the Orchestra is in Vienna, but rather the result of the musicians’ ability and commitment and a carefully cultivated playing style that has developed over the years . The orchestra has the ability to combine precision with musical zeal, to be both dedicated and disciplined.

The orchestra has succeeded in finding its own profile amidst the rich musical landscape of Vienna. In the programs, apart from the well-known highlights of the concert literature you will always find less familiar and unjustly forgetten compositions. Soloists of international reputation as well as young talents are always welcome to perform together with the orchestra.
