The annual gaokao, or college entrance examination, kicked off across China on Friday.

A total of 13.42 million students have registered for this year's examination according to the Ministry of Education.

Local authorities have made coordinated efforts to ensure the smooth organization of the exams and provided comprehensive services for candidates.
