Editor's note: The State Council Information Office invited representatives from the civil affairs system on Tuesday to share their stories and insights on enhancing people's well-being.

Huang Huiqing, director of the medical department of the Beijing Children's Welfare Institute

Having worked at the Beijing Children's Welfare Institute for over 30 years, I have witnessed firsthand the rapid development of our country's child welfare services. For example, we've expanded our reach beyond orphans to support a wider range of children facing difficult circumstances, including those without parental care. Moreover, our standards of care have steadily improved over time, and the scope of support has evolved from meeting basic needs such as food, clothing and shelter to encompassing medical rehabilitation, special education, social integration and psychological support.

Wu Bo, director of the Heze Rescue and Assistance Management Station, Shandong province

A strong belief in the value and significance of rescue and assistance work is what sustains my commitment to this position and keeps me moving forward. Assistance work is fundamental to ensuring people's basic needs, addressing emergencies and safeguarding their livelihoods. Whenever I see people enjoying a good meal at our assistance station, receiving timely medical treatment when ill, or reuniting with their families with tears of joy, I feel that our work is worthwhile.

Qiu Liyun, head of the nursing group of the Liuzhou Social Welfare Institute, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region

Over the years, I've become increasingly aware of how much our country values elderly care professionals, especially with all the newly issued policies and measures, including job subsidies, national skills competitions, skill level assessments and the recognition of outstanding individuals in elderly services. These initiatives have opened up more career opportunities in the industry and increased our sense of pride and belonging. We truly believe that the future of the elderly care profession is bright. It's great to see more young people joining the sector, helping more seniors enjoy happiness and dignity in their twilight years.

Nie Jing, director of the Minhang District Marriage and Adoption Registration Center, Shanghai

Our work is all about spreading happiness. We carefully review every registration document to make sure the marriage is voluntary and legal. On peak wedding days such as May 20, which sounds like "I love you" in Chinese, we put in extra hours to help couples register for marriage. Our center also has a counseling room, staffed by a professional team of lawyers, notaries, social workers and psychological consultants. They provide free services such as psychological counseling, legal advice and emotional management to those facing marital challenges.

Li Xiaoxia, deputy director of the Ganquan County Social Assistance Service Center, Yan'an city, Shaanxi province

The key to effective social assistance work lies in accurately identifying those in need and implementing precise policies to ensure concrete benefits. We integrate big data screening with on-the-ground investigation, relying on online platforms such as the dynamic monitoring platform for low-income populations and offline rapid response teams to proactively identify those needing help. Once an application for social assistance is received, we conduct home visits and neighborhood interviews, verify the applicants' economic status and cross-check with relevant departments to ensure accuracy and provide personalized aid plans based on actual needs.
